We've come to Dunblane for the weekend, a picturesque Scottish village in Perthshire, about 110 miles southwest of Aberdeen. The village is beautiful with lots of quirky shops and an attractive river running through the middle called Allan Water. There's also a cathedral that dates from the 12th century. There's a fake Banksy outside one… Continue reading Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries

Birnam, Dunkeld, Beatrix Potter, and a bookshop
We're back at home after a wonderful week in Glencoe which is now at the top of our list of the best holidays we've ever had. We stayed in a self-catering holiday house which quite possibly has the best views in all of Britain. There were plenty of walks from right outside the front door… Continue reading Birnam, Dunkeld, Beatrix Potter, and a bookshop
The Bridge House Stables
We're just back from a fantastic weekend away staying at the Bridge House Stables in Perthshire. It's an old bridge built in 1881 over the River Ardle and now let as two holiday homes. The interior has been tastefully renovated and in keeping with the age of the bridge. Straddling the river means you can… Continue reading The Bridge House Stables
Old things
I love old things. We're doing some exploring this weekend in a beautiful part of Scotland. I love the landscapes in Scotland: the hills, lochs, rivers, and sea. But I also love the history and the architecture. Modern stuff doesn't really excite me but old stuff inspires and uplifts me. Old things are unique and… Continue reading Old things
Ecocamp Glenshee
We are back from our fabulous glamping weekend at Ecocamp Glenshee. It's about 2.5 hours by car south of Aberdeen through the Cairngorms. The drive was wonderful and part of it is along the highest road in the UK. Ecocamp Glenshee is wonderful for families as it's safe and they have animals - llamas, chickens,… Continue reading Ecocamp Glenshee
Highland Safaris, Aberfeldy
We went on a Highland Safari today and it was the highlight of my week. It was sensational. The sun came out, there was snow on the ground, the views were superb, and I felt like I was on top of the world. We went up into the hills on a guided tour in two… Continue reading Highland Safaris, Aberfeldy
Queen’s View and Pitlochry Fish Ladder
It snowed today! We went to Queen's View which is apparently one of the most photographed views in Scotland. It was beautiful in the snow. Sister and family: Me and family: Sister and father: Ben got his obligatory "bored in the snow" photo. I got my usual "excited in the snow" photo. Afterwards we went… Continue reading Queen’s View and Pitlochry Fish Ladder
Red Deer Centre, Aberfeldy
Just outside Aberfeldy is a red deer centre where you can feed some deer and get up close to a barn owl. We took the children there this afternoon and it was wonderful. I've never seen deer up close let alone hand-fed one. It looks like Daniel is feeding his hand to the stag in this… Continue reading Red Deer Centre, Aberfeldy
Beatrix Potter Exhibition, Dunkeld
There's a Beatrix Potter exhibition in the village of Dunkeld in Perthshire. Dunkeld is one of the oldest towns in Scotland and apparently Beatrix Potter's family rented a house nearby and spent many holidays there. The local wildlife likely inspired some of the characters in her stories. Dunkeld is cute and the Beatrix Potter exhibition is… Continue reading Beatrix Potter Exhibition, Dunkeld
Perthshire for Christmas
We've taken off a bit early for the Christmas holidays; we're spending it in the very lovely Perthshire. Here are a couple of pics from the drive today. We just managed to squish everything into the Co-Wheels car, including Creeper. There was a dusting of snow today which made the landscape look beautiful. Perthshire is… Continue reading Perthshire for Christmas
Pitlochry
We are in Pitlochry in Perthshire, which is in the middle of Scotland. We caught the train from Aberdeen yesterday and plan to spend two nights here. We thought about booking one of the Co-wheels cars but it actually worked out to be the same price, if not cheaper, to catch the train. That's including the… Continue reading Pitlochry
