Trick or high-fructose corn syrup

Every year the kids nag to go trick or treating and every year we say no. I just can’t understand how it’s appropriate to encourage children to go to the homes of strangers asking for sweets. Perhaps we’re just boring and unfair parents. To be fair, the kids don’t seem to mind too much and instead, we get to hand out treats to kids who are all dressed up. I’ve still struggled a bit with the idea of handing out crap to children so this year we tried something different and gave out sultana boxes and bear fruit yo-yos.

As far as we can tell no-one has been disappointed with this but maybe they’ve secretly blacklisted our house for next year.

  1. I struggle most with the plastic wrapping aspect of sweets, cakes and biscuits. So I end up baking a lot. In terms of Halloween, luckily we are not in a village any more with lots of children and being upstairs in a flat we don’t get bothered.

    1. Yes, plastic wrapping is so pervasive and hard to avoid unless you do your baking. Well done you! Do you make Halloween-inspired treats or is it just general yummy things?
