Street Maintenance
Auckland Transport has spent the last week ripping up the footpaths and kerbs on our street and replacing them with new footpaths and kerbs. I can’t think why they’re doing this as the footpaths and kerbs looked fine to me before. What I find even more frustrating is the absence of a cycle path in the new footpath/kerb. If paths and gutters are being ripped apart and new concrete poured and set, then doesn’t this provide the most efficient and cost-effective way to stick in a cycle path? Do it at the same time and make use of the same labour and raw materials while minimising the hassle for residents. There really are morons running the show.
Yesterday, as the concrete was setting on our new footpath, I wandered down to have a look and thought about etching in a picture of a bike. No-one was looking. But I chickened out. I’m just a coward. This morning I discovered some teenagers have done what I was too afraid to do and have scrawled something illegible in it overnight. Now I’m really bummed I didn’t do something myself.
If you want really good quality of life for your motor vehicle, then move to Auckland – city for cars.
Daniel’s Party
It’s not Daniel’s birthday till the end of the month, but we had a party for him yesterday to coincide with a visit from overseas friends. Daniel had a great time and tells me his favourite bit was pass-the-parcel. There were 15 kids here yesterday and thankfully, that’s the end of party season for us for another year. Hooray! Here’s the cake, which I miraculously managed to avoid setting alight when 6 candles were lit on the bow:
