Scavenger hunt and Crathes Castle

Last weekend we participated in a Valentine’s Day scavenger hunt as part of a fund-raising exercise for the school. We didn’t win but we had a fun time nevertheless and opted to do some of the challenges at Crathes Castle which is always worth a visit. Here are some of the photos.

We had lunch at the café and I was very impressed with their vegan selection. They had two soups to choose from and some delicious cauliflower and chickpea pasties. We got both. I like the little flower pots they use for soup.

We said hello to the highland cows.

We’ve been hit with lots of storms recently and there were many trees down on the Crathes Castle estate.

Today it has been snowing which is nice as we’ve been starved of snow this year. There should be a nice covering on the hills in Aberdeenshire by now.

    Nice to have a fund raiser for the school. Is that secondary school? Sometimes those fundraising committees are less active in secondaries, maybe because parents are at work,or there is just less of a sense of knowing other parents. Nice to have one that is fun too.

      Yes, it is a secondary school and was organised by the PTO. They did a great job.

    Looks great. Empathise with the trees we in Cumbria have lost 100s. You have had prolonged storms and must have lost even more. My cousin’s wife suggested we should have a Remembrance Day for fallen trees. She is mother to a soldier and I thought this a thoughtful and generous suggestion. Mx

      That sounds like a wonderful idea. It might change people’s cavalier attitudes when it comes to felling trees.

    That photo of you and Ben is a take-off of a well-known painting, isn’t it? I can picture it, but can’t bring the name of it to mind, or who painted it.

      I’m not sure. Our instructions for the scavenger hunt were to take a photo of one team member proposing to another who has a disgusted look on their face. If it’s a famous painting they didn’t mention that. It would be funny if it was! I’d like to see it.

        I don’t think the painting depicts a proposal, but it’s of a man ‘pressing his suit’ to a woman who is in a garden reading, and her leaning away. It’s been used in various ways to depict unwanted attentions. If I encounter it again, I’ll post it here 🙂
