Dublin meetup

I’m in Dublin on a work trip and having a really great time. I’ve never been to Dublin before so it’s nice to have a look around. My coworkers are a fantastic bunch of people and incredibly hard workers so it’s looking like this will be a very productive trip.

However it’s not all work. We had lunch at Rustic Stone today and I ate possibly the most delicious salad I have ever eaten in my entire life.

This morning I spotted this cargo bike waiting at the traffic lights. It’s a Gazelle and there were two little critters inside.

Dublin doesn’t have particularly good bicycle infrastructure. Indeed I haven’t see any other than some painted lines here and there. However there are still lots of cyclists and they have what seems to be a fairly popular bicycle rental scheme. Imagine how great cycling could be if they did have the proper infrastructure? And then imagine how much less traffic and pollution there’d be?

We also visited the amazing Queen of Tarts; a great place for coffee and cake:

In Dublin’s fayre city… Great town. You’ll love this Rachel. Yesterday I went to our local Tesco with the dog; waiting outside was a cargo bike, the first I’ve seen in South London. Inwardly I squealed. You’ve got a cargo bike. With Kids!’ The owner, a woman, turned and stared at me, then looked sad and pedalled off. It was only then I realised my internalised squeal and comment was in fact said out loud and she must have thought this beardy weirdy is on day release and we need to get away now.

  I would not have been said if someone squealed in excitement at my cargo bike. Maybe she was having a bad day? What type of bike was it? Did you get a pic?

    It had a sort of round sided bin at the front. I think it migh be a trike with two wheels at the back. Sadly I scared her off before I could tie up Dog and get a camera out. Hopefully I’ll see her again.

Jeez, I live near Dublin, but never been to Rustic Stone, nor Queen of Tarts. Feel like I am really missing out.

Dublin is a city whose transport infrastructure is permanently 10 years behind its population and their intentions. But enjoy, and do come back.
