Scenic view of the Ballochbuie forest

Honka Hut in the Ballochbuie Forest

We went for a lovely walk in the Ballochbuie Forest on the Balmoral estate today. We love these forest walks as they have a nice mix of forest, waterfalls, scenic views and beautiful old bridges. Today we added a new destination with a visit to the Honka Hut which was a gift from Finland to Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip for their silver wedding anniversary.

Scenic views of a cold landscape with a mix of green, reds and blues. The sky is cloudy. There's a tree in the foreground and hills beyond.

Here’s the Honka Hut.

A timber cabin surrounded by tall trees and a lack to the front.
The lake frozen over with Daniel in the foreground.
The Honka Hut from a distance with a big hill in the background.

Some of the trees like this next were covered in frost.

A frosted pine tree. The leaves are all white.

And there were so many nice views I couldn’t stop taking photos.

A forested landscape with mist in the hills in the distance.
A similar frosted landscape but with a bare cluster of trees that look reddish-orange in the foreground.
A landscape with red, orange, purple, blue and green hues. Misty hills in the background.
Daniel and Elizabeth on the path.
Oscar, Ben and Josey on the path.
The river running down towards the valley.
A selfie on the iron bridge of Daniel, Elizabeth, Rachel, Ben, Josey and Oscar.

I got this photo of Grandad in the village before the walk.

A cold Braemar with Dad in the foreground and silver trees on the hill in the background.

The scenery reminds me a lot of watching Top of the Lake, is this similar to New Zealand in RL? It feels otherworldly in comparison with our part of the country.

The scenery in Scotland it similar to the south island of New Zealand. The mountains are bigger are in New Zealand but there are no earthquakes here.
