Covid for Christmas

I finally got covid. I took a test on the weekend and the two lines appeared immediately. I haven’t had covid until now and was thinking I might be one of those super-humans who have no symptoms but it turns out I was probably just protected previously thanks to the vaccine.

Ben got very ill with covid about 2 years ago. I never got it at that time despite sleeping in the same room and bed. But that was shortly after I’d had the vaccines and the protection they gave me then has likely worn off.

Daniel got sick a couple of weeks ago and was off school for two days. Then Elizabeth was sick early last week. I started the week feeling excessively tired. Then on Wednesday I developed a fever and headache which lasted 1-2 days. By Friday I just wanted to sleep. I’m feeling better now but still very tired, congested and a bit dizzy. The kids were both better in about 48 hours although Daniel has had a lingering cough.

Ben has had two viruses one after the other. He first got sick around the same time as Daniel and again this week with something else, probably covid also. He hasn’t been as unwell as me likely because he had covid previously quite badly.

I’m glad we didn’t plan any trips this Christmas as when you’re sick the best place to be is home and the UK is in the grips of a quademic apparently with lots of cases of covid, norovirus, RSA, and flu. We plan to spend Christmas on the sofa watching B-rated Christmas movies this year.

Dear Rachel – please go easy on yourself this Christmas – as one who has had ‘mild’ COVID twice I know only too well how debilitated it can leave you unless you really step off the gas and take it steady for a few weeks. Have as good a Christmas as you can manage and charge your batteries for the New Year.

    kind regards

    Keith

Ah thank you. I will do. It’ll be, thankfully, a very low key affair this year.

I got it this season as well, having thought I was someone who didn’t get Covid, but the only symptom I had was a non stop cough. I got round to making the medieval dish with all the vegetables last night. It was amazing with all the flavours and I think the oatmeal makes the texture thicker.

Oh good to hear! About the pottage, not the covid! And yes I agree the oatmeal makes a big difference to the texture and also the flavour I thought.
