Elizabeth and Dione outside Wagamama

Happy 14th birthday, Elizabeth

Today is New Year’s Eve for everyone else but for us it’s Elizabeth’s birthday. She was born on this day 14 years ago. We took her to her favourite restaurant for dinner with her oldest friend Dione who she’s known since her first year of school.

We don’t eat out much these days and it was lovely. I’m glad Elizabeth loves Wagamama so much as it’s my favourite place too.

Our oven is currently broken along with the car heater, the kitchen floor, and our back door. This meant I couldn’t bake a cake so thank goodness supermarkets were invented.

Yesterday we took my sister, Cara, to the pantomime. It was Sleeping Beauty and it was just as excellent as always. I think she enjoyed it. Pantomime is a very British tradition. I asked her whether it was what she expected and she said initially she thought it would be mime. Christmas pantomimes are such fun.

And we love having an excuse to go to His Majesty’s Theatre.

On Friday we visited Crathes Castle.

We said hello to our highland cow friends.

I forgot Elizabeth has her birthday on 31st December. I have new nephews and they have theirs on 31st December too. We spent the day watching them on a massive outdoor play structure near Penrith, Lowther Castle. They were exhausted by bed time (they have just turned 6). So were we, as it was a cold and grey day to be outside.
