My latest addition to the vintage clothing collection is this gorgeous 1960s velvet dress with organza ruffling and a plunging neckline.

It is really long and goes right to the floor on me. I’m quite tall too.

The velvet is thick and heavy, very different to the fabric you’d get in modern clothes. The organza is so fragile, almost like tissue paper.

I’m not really sure why I love old clothes and what the point is of collecting them. Sometimes I think it’s a silly obsession of mine. It’s not like I’m going to open a museum of clothes from the 20th century or anything. They don’t really get worn out either – I just try them on every now and again. Is this a bit pointless and absurd? What do you collect that seems a bit pointless at times?
I love it!!! π
I love vintage. When it comes to clothing styles, I love Victorian. But I don’t have anything from that time.
A few years ago I had this moment where I loooooved Lolita Fashion. I still love it, but I never wear it anymore. It has victorian touches.
When it comes to pointless collecting, I can list a lot. Because, for example, I have more yarn and books than I can use / read for MANY years to come π
But the most pointless will probably be my My Little Pony collection (gen 4 – Friendship is Magic). I love MLP. But at the moment I don’t have any room to display it a lot. And yet I keep buying more π€·πΌββοΈπ
I think you should definitely keep collecting those clothes. It’s a fun hobby to have ππ»π
Aww thank you! There could be worse hobbies – like collecting vintage cars! They’re expensive and take up far too much space. I’ve got a heap of crochet magazines I can’t bear to discard. I like flicking back through them from time to time. They’re inspiring. My Little Pony is a unique one! I’ve not heard of that before. I do have some very old barbie dolls – the original ones with bendy knees.
Hahaha agreed. I wouldn’t start on collecting vintage cars. They also often need repairs. It’s like a black hole for your money π
Oooh crochet magazines sounds nice.
I found a very old one once, in a charity shop. I packed it in a plastic bag to keep it safe π
Barbie dolls is a fun one too! I only kept 1 barbie doll from my childhood (somewhere from the late 80s). The others went to my niece to play with π
I can just imagine that dress being someoneβs pride and glory back then. Some woman would have gone to a ball in that dress, and felt like a million dollars π
I donβt collect things, although I love buying books, even if I know that I might not ever read them – lol!
Yes, I’m sure you’re right. Whoever had the dress before took very good care of it so it must have been special to them.
This isn’t really a collection but I get very excited if I can find plastic that can be reused before recycling, or unused serviettes from restaurants that I can reuse for cleaning. The kids bring me these things too because they know I like them.
That is a very good habit to have. Have you got any good tips for reusing plastic?
I am not sure if I have ever mentioned repurposing bubble wrap into bin bags using parcel tape? Any small bags can be used at the plastic free shop, if you double bag to save leakage. Er, also if I am walking a long way, big bags are good litter/recyclable picking receptacles. We get through a lot of bin bags when the student lodgers are here
and then we sort of break even. At the moment I have a surplus.
Suits you maβam!
Thank you!
These look so good! If taken with a better camera outdoors the images would have been out of this world! Only if I lived nearby.. π
Thank you! The pictures aren’t great – you’re right – and don’t do the dress justice.
