If you’re looking for something funny to watch this New Year’s Eve then might I suggest this 15-minute British comedy sketch filmed in 1963 which will have you laughing out loud. It’s played annually on New Year’s Eve in many European countries and is widely known throughout northern Europe except, oddly, in the UK where most people have never heard of it. I know of it because when I was in my early 20s I nannied for a Norwegian family one Christmas/New Year and the whole family sat down to watch this as an annual tradition. Freddie Flinton puts on an outstanding performance as a drunk butler to Miss Sophie for her 90th birthday.
It’s Elizabeth’s birthday today and our annual tradition of going to the pantomime followed by ice-skating at the Christmas markets has been scuppered by covid. Instead we had pancakes for breakfast followed by Pizza Express home delivery for lunch.
For cake I made a victoria sponge which is one of Elizabeth’s favourite cakes. I followed a recipe from Matt Pritchard’s book Dirty Vegan.
My little baby is a big 11-year-old now. I think she still had a nice day despite the strange circumstances.
I don’t think anyone will be sad to see the back of 2020. Wishing everyone a safe and healthy 2021 with lots of vaccine jabs for all.
