For those who don’t know, Tony Abbott was an Australian prime minister from 2013 to 2015 when he was ousted by his party. He is a fervent climate change denier. In 2017 he gave a speech to the Global Warming Policy Foundation in London. Here’s a summary from ABC News Australia.
Climate change science, he now asserts, has the spirit of the Inquisition.
It is the “thought police down the ages” and invoked a post-Christian nostalgia for sacrifice in political response.
“Primitive people once killed goats to appease the volcano gods,” he said.
Not sure where your “here” is, but I don’t want him in mine, for he sounds like an ignorant idiot.
I am in the UK so here is the UK 😦
My “here” is West Wales. My “here” I also consider as the Earth, for what happens anywhere upon it, has knock on effects all over it.
Oh no! 1950’s politics is right. I hoped his reign was over for good, I’m so sorry to hear this Rachel.
If it cheers you up I highly recommend watching Julia Gillard’s eloquent take down of Tony Abbots blatantly backwards ideals. It was so good to hear someone call him out and put him in his place.
If only Boris had hired her! Julia is miles better.
Tony Abbott was the best Boris could find? That’s scary for you in the UK, and for any women he has to work with, or negotiate deals with. I still remember the appalling things he said about Julia Gillard when she was Prime
Minister, way worse than he would have said about any male member of the opposition. And the Australian press were with him all the way! It’s incredible that she came out of that in one piece, and went on to establish another career for herself. I guess I have a bit of a soft spot for her, too, because after our Feb11 earthquake, she couldn’t throw enough help at us. It was amazing!
He can’t have looked very hard if all he found was Tony Abbott. It’s so depressing especially when I know what’s at stake and I want to live somewhere with a functioning economy.
Julia Gillard’s experience is truly shocking for out time. I’m ashamed to call myself Australian when I see how she was treated.
[…] beginning to think there’s a bit of cronyism in the Boris Johnson government. The inexplicable appointment of Tony Abbott as trade advisor is not the first suspect […]
So sorry Rachel. Speaking of idiots, sounds like this guy would fit well in Trumps cabiinet. M 😦
Indeed he and Trump would be best buddies. I’m sure he’s a Trump supporter.
I’m sorry for the spelling error above, (cabinet.) Climate deniers and other mentally deranged politicians (Think: “Trump”) make me crazy… M 🙂
Oh dear. There must be so many better negotiators than Tony Abbott.

I’d have thought so too.
