Fitness goddess

I was cycling the kids home from school this afternoon and just made it to the top of a hill when a young man shouted out in a very exuberant and “look, there’s a flying pig!” kind of way,

OH MY GOD! YOU MUST BE SO FIT! JESUS!

I’m really not that fit but this put a smile on my face for the rest of the afternoon.

We now have a constant supply of cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, and kale from the garden. All my rocket went to seed but I have some new seedlings on the way. It’s so satisfying to grow your own food. I suppose it will all come to an end in a couple of months as the cooler weather sets in. What vegetables grow well in winter here?

Don’t you need more rocket fuel to get you up the hill?

I see what you did there 🙂

Kale and Winter salad leaves grow well here over the Winter. As does Perpetual spinach — a little more coarse than the leaves you get over the Summer but every bit as delicious.

Wonderful! I love kale and it just seems to grow all the time and with little effort. I’m so happy to hear it’ll do well in winter too.

    Leeks and Brussels spouts

Leeks I love, brussels sprouts not so much. But I’ll give them a try because Elizabeth likes them.

Try them grated and fried with a grind of nutmeg

You heard the traditional accompaniments to Haggis? Neeps and tatties? (Turnips/swedes and Potatoes)- Definitely available in Scotland in winter

Yes, I’ve definitely heard of neeps and tatties. I’m not so fond of potatoes but could give swedes a try.

Lovely post, I think cycling your kids up a hill after school is such a nice thing to do with your children, plus i reckon it takes a lot of fitness and discipline to stay active and cycle even after a busy day!

Aww, thank you! That’s so nice 🙂

I enjoy cycling and I’ll be sad when the kids are too big for me to cycle them home from school.
