The beach, Aberdeen

I had to take my Thunderbolt monitor to the Apple store this morning because the camera is blurry and I can’t fix it. It’s still under warranty so they’re going to replace the camera for me which is great. But are you wondering how I got a huge and heavy Thunderbolt to the Apple store without a car? Easy.

On the cycle ride back home I got whistled at! This is the first time that’s happened when I’ve been out on my bicycle. Did I feel objectified, humiliated, like a piece of meat? Nope. I thought it was great. Of course it’s entirely probable that the whistle was meant for someone else but since I’m unsure, I’ll pretend it was for me ๐Ÿ™‚

It was a lovely sunny day today and with very little wind so we took the opportunity to go to the beach. Cities that have both sea and mountains together are the best. Christchurch is another city that has mountains and sea. New Zealanders will probably mock me for saying that Scotland has mountains – they would call them hills – but I’m Australian and as far as I’m concerned they’re mountains.

The beach in Aberdeen is also quite lovely but too cold for swimming. This didn’t stop crazy surfers and dogs from venturing out into the icy water. There’s over 3km of pedestrian/cycle paths right along the waterfront and so we had a lovely cycle ride all the way from Footdee to the River Don.

It is beautiful. I’ve never been that into beaches as places to sunbathe and swim. The sand drives me nuts! But I love the sound of the surf and the smell of the sea in the air.

You look very good on that bike.
One question that suddenly hit me today – talking about moving heavy things around, how are you going to get a Christmas tree home without a car?

I’ll do the same thing I did last year –

You can also order them online and quite a few places will deliver.

Billy Connelly did a good routine about city schoolkids being sent to the seaside for fresh air and getting told to go in the sea because it was good for them whilst meanwhile offshore workers are getting drilled on how they’ll be unconcious in a few minutes from the cold if they fall in the sea. Lovely autumn sunshine in those photos.

haha, that’s so funny. My sister-in-law swims in Lake Geneva all year round. If she comes to visit then I’ll take her to the beach and maybe consider having a dip myself.

Gorgeous down here in East Lothian too. Special day carrying the Saltire on me bike for a transfer to a horse (or rather the honest lad on a horse) – I’ll blog about it soon.

Thank you! I don’t think I’m very good at taking photographs but I really appreciate the lovely colours in the sky at this time of year.

Incredible colors at this tine of tje year. But it takes a good eye to make the right composition and use light appropriately.

Glad to see you’ve settled in so well. Great shore line and do you deliver pizza to London. ๐Ÿ™‚

Haha, the pizza would be cold and mouldy by the time I got there. I’m not very fast ๐Ÿ™‚

I lived and studied in Aberdeen fro about 20 years before moving to Edinburgh, and your photo’s of the Beach Esplanade with Fittie in the back ground brought back a lot of memories….
Nice also to see a cargo bike doing the rounds in Aberdeen…I take my bike up to the granite city whenI cm up to see my folks .. I love heading out along the Cove Bay coastline and around towards Banchory…..

Thanks! It’s great to have some locals (or previously local) reading my blog. If you have any tips let me know. The coastal cycle ride to Banchory sounds really nice. I might have to try it. The coast here is stunning.
