Return to the hills

School is finished. Daniel is home. All Elizabeth’s termly activities have come to an end and I’m basking in the peace and slowness that have returned after such an eventful June. We took advantage of nothing happening this weekend to walk up Scolty Hill, something we haven’t done for too long now.

On the way up we discovered bush after bush of ripe and delicious blaeberries which taste just like blueberries.

We stopped for a quick drink of water so I could show off my muscles.

The monument, a memorial built to honour General William Burnett who fought with Wellington in the Napoleonic Wars, stands at the top of the hill.

There’s a staircase inside for those who want to go to the top, which Ben and I did.

It’s not for people who are scared of heights.

Then back down again. It’s only about an hour from the carpark up and down so not a long walk but very pleasant nonetheless and a good mix of landcapes with forest at the start and views at the top.

Then down again and off to Crathes Castle where we had a delicious lunch.
