Me sitting on a bench with pigeons feeding at my feet

Pigeons, garden wildlife and cheer

It has been a weekend of cheer, pigeons and gardening. On Friday afternoon I was in town and spotted not one, not two but three pigeons all with string foot. One of them had a very swollen and white foot which was clearly causing him a lot of pain but I had stupidly left my net at home. When I returned about an hour later with the net he was nowhere to be seen but I managed to catch a different bird that needed help so it wasn’t a wasted journey.

Here’s the before photo. It doesn’t look so bad from this angle but you can see the damage from the other side of the foot once all the thread has been removed.

On Saturday I returned with Ben and the pigeon with the swollen foot was again missing but we managed to help a different bird.

Ben says other wives drag their husbands shopping but he’d much rather go pigeon de-stringing which is wonderful because I’d rather do that than shop too.

Saturday afternoon Elizabeth was in a cheer show, something she’s been learning since last summer. She’s learnt a huge amount just in one year. I was impressed with the show, especially the competitive teams. She signed up in preparation for the Bring it On musical by The Beyond Broadway Experience which is running in Aberdeen on 7th and 8th August at His Majesty’s Theatre and Elizabeth is in it! We can’t wait to see it.

Last night Bertie the badger returned to our garden which is lovely as we haven’t seen him on the camera for a little while.

A bird I’ve not seen before also appeared on the camera. I think it’s a song thrush.

Today Ben and I spent a couple of hours try to tame the jungle that the allotment has become. We made good progress but it still needs more work. It’s always a battle keeping on top of things over the summer.
