Finzean walk and shop

I think I’ve fully recovered now aside from being a bit snotty with a lingering cough. We made the most of a sunny, mild winter day today to go for a walk in the countryside. I chose Finzean because I wanted an excuse to visit the Finzean farm shop.

Granite building with people sitting at ourdoor tables.
Inside the café and gift shop with paintings on the walls, tables for eating at, and some woollen items for sale.
A wall of shelves with products for sales - books, mugs, napkins, cards and similar items.
A display of cookbooks in the farm shop.

We arrived at the farm shop first which has a café, a grocery store as well as a wonderful art gallery and gift shop. I would have been in heaven except that my family members are not interested in such places and I may as well have asked them to remove dags from a sheep such was their enthusiasm. We decided to go for a walk first and return to the farm shop for refreshments afterwards. I was pretty sure they could be tempted back on the promise of coffee and cake.

A selfie with lots of green fields behind us and hills in the distance.
A rurual view with green fields, hedgerows and hills.

I think the hill in the distance in this next photo is Clachnaben.

Two horses in a field.

This is Finzean House, owned by the Farquarson family who run and own the Finzean estate.

The stallion in the next photo is very well endowed.

We bought a bar of dark peppermint chocolate from the shop to give us energy for the walk.

A rural scene with sheep on a field and a setting sun in the distance.

The field with sheep looked very rocky but on closer inspection the rocks turned out to be turnips.

It was a lovely rural walk past farmland, livestock, and through forest. We finished at the café where the non-shoppers had coffee and cafe leaving me free to roam unimpeded. I may have spent more than I intended and I did accidentally drop everything as I was waiting in queue to pay but aside from that it was a success.

I finished knitting a jumper for Daniel yesterday. I had wanted to get it done for Christmas day so he could unwrap a knitted jumper on Christmas Day, just like Mrs Weasley did for her kids in Harry Potter. But covid put me behind schedule and I didn’t quite finish it on time. He looks very smart in it though. I’m very happy with how it turned out.

You have, and do, some lovely walks. Am I right in guessing you’re the driving force behind their execution? 🙂

Yes, I’m generally the organiser but Daniel had been nagging to go for a walk since before Christmas however Ben and I have been unwell so this is the first one we’ve managed. Hopefully we’ll get in a few more before school goes back.

We went for a walk with children yesterday and there was a lot of moaning. But part of it was around people having wet feet. Also, the views here aren’t as good as yours in the winter – chalky and muddy. I was thinking about the contrast as we went round – there is a lot more colour in the Scottish landscapes.

Wet socks and feet are unpleasant on a walk so I sympathise. Nothing beats a pair of good waterproof shoes. I used to have gortex running shoes which were great in the rain. They wore out though – I need to get another pair.
