Pets and weekend happenings

I was rudely awoken by the cat at 6:30am on Saturday. She slapped me in the face with a paw demanding breakfast. Fortunately she hadn’t put her claws out.

Ruby has settled in very well. She’s a very friendly little thing and unlike Rocket she likes being handled and always climbs onto our hands when we reach into the cage. I give her supervised runs around the floor of the office which she seems to like. She’s very fond of Ben’s slippers.

I had a sand bath out on the floor for her too until Victoria decided it made a good toilet.

We haven’t done much this weekend. I’ve spent much of it listening to the audiobook Children of Time which is excellent and also knitting a jumper. I’m onto the sleeves now.

The jumper I'm kntting which is a lightish pink colour and mostly stocking stitch.

I also decided to make my own salt-free green curry paste then made a green Thai curry for dinner which worked out rather well. I blended fresh coriander, garlic, lemongrass, spring onions, ginger, chilli, and lemon together then cooked it with fresh vegetables and tofu adding some apple syrup for sweetness and also pepper and perry vinegar. The family enjoyed it so I’ll definitely make it again.

I’ve had hamsters enjoy using one of the sand baths as a toilet but surely cats like to go outside? Anyway I guess that is most unappealing to the hamster.

Your curry sounds nice. It’s a good idea to add a bit of sweetness for the taste – the contrast between spicy and sweet or spicy and salt does make the taste more interesting and I think apple is better than salt. It sounds really tasty.

For some reason our cat prefers to use her kitty litter. Sometimes she goes outside but she’s mostly an indoor cat by choice. She has cat flaps that she can use at anytime during the day – we lock her in overnight – but she doesn’t go outside very often. She likes her creature comforts 🙂

I use this for sweetness in all my cooking – https://hodmedods.co.uk/collections/oils-syrups-vinegars/products/liberty-fields-apple-syrup
It’s delicious and adds flavour as well as sweetness.
