Rachel jumping at Creag Choinnich

Royal Deeside

It was Etienne’s last day in Scotland today so we took him to our favourite place: Braemar. On the way there we stopped in Ballater to show him Queen Victoria’s train carriage.

Inside the carriage looking through the glass there's a plush blue sofa and blue curtains.

And her waiting room with toilet.

The waiting room has a dining table and lead light windows with timber panelling on the walls.
The toilet is a timber seat with a porcelain bowl in the middle.

In Braemar we had lunch first then walked up Creag Choinnich. This next photo is a view from The Bothy Café.

We showed him the wall of heads at the Fife Arms.

Then made a brief visit to the games park where Ben showed us 3rd position.

We went on to the Linn of Dee wondering whether to swim or not.

The water was freezing and it started to rain so why not?

I think Etienne thought we were crazy. He didn’t go in. The air temperature was 10C according to our car. Daniel didn’t go swimming either but Ben did.

The temperature was supposed to be 10 degrees when I was freezing in my tent all last week when camping on a school trip! Etienne was very lucky to have you as a host family, showing him so many of Scotland’s fabulous places.

I hope he had a nice time. It’s always fun showing someone around a place you love.
