It’s history in the making today with politicians in Holyrood voting to make it a criminal offence for parents to smack their children. We are the 58th country in the world to outlaw smacking and the first country in the UK. Sweden was the first in the world back in 1979. New Zealand did it back in 2009. My only question is why did it take so long?
Ben and I have never smacked our children. How can parents teach their children that physical violence is wrong while hitting them at the same time? We protect adults from physical violence so why should it be different for children?
Well done, Scotland. I’m proud to call you my home.
Thought they’d done it already for some reason, but yes it’s great that this has happened.
It has been on the cards for a little while but parliament had to vote on it and that happened late yesterday and they voted in favour of the ban.
Oh this just appeared in my Facebook feed
