LOOK: a pic of me in a bikini!

Don’t be daft! As if I’d post a photograph of myself in a bikini on the web for all to see. I just wanted to see how many perverts there are out there and whether my stats increase with this title.

We did go to the beach today though – to Takapuna beach – where lovely views of Rangitoto, the most recent volcano to erupt in Auckland, can be seen. Rangitoto is unlikely to erupt again. The next eruption will be somewhere new. Under our house for instance.

I had a terrible migraine last night. I never take anything stronger than Nurofen or Panadol for migraines and neither of them really do much other than take the edge off if that. But this week the doctor gave me something different to try called Rizatriptan benzoate which is a serotonin receptor agonist. I’m NEVER taking it again. It melts on your tongue and you’re supposed to let it mostly dissolve before swallowing. Almost immediately I found it difficult to swallow. This made me panicky because I’d read the warnings which included chest/throat/neck/jaw pain, tightness and pressure. I’ve since discovered one of the side-effects is also paranoia which I certainly had (but I may have had this regardless). Then within about 20 minutes or so I felt sick, really sick and puked up all my dinner. I also had diarrhoea and dizziness and felt sweaty and cold at the same time. Fortunately after I’d finished emptying the contents of my digestive tract, I mostly started to feel better. It helped the headache too and I eventually got off to sleep but it wasn’t worth all that other stuff. I still have a headache today but it’s not so bad.

Here are some photos from Takapuna beach today:

That’s Rangitoto, which in Maori means blood red sky. They saw it erupt some 600 years ago.

Oh, and what do you know? There is a pic of me in a bikini! :-0

Nice flat tummy! I am her Dad and therefore allowed to pass remarks!

You’re not supposed to broadcast to the world that you’re my Dad. Embarrassing!

Dear Rachel’s Dad. I’m 52 in age and 44 in the waist and I completely emphatise with your tummy remark. I haven’t seen my toes in years and if I was in that pic, standing right next to your daughter, I wouldn’t be able to see the lady’s toes either!

I saw Rangitoto from Mt Victoria, Devenport. Really cool looking island ๐Ÿ™‚

You can walk to the top of Rangitoto and see the crater and the lava. I haven’t done it but have heard it’s quite impressive. It’s not far away, just a 10 or 15 minute ferry ride. We might have to do it before we leave.

      1. Kit Carruthers Avatar

Aye, sadly I didn’t have time to walk up Rangitoto although I would have loved to have done. I did manage to go up Mt Eden though, which was pretty cool! All the volcanoes in Scotland are many millions of years old so no imminent eruptions due in Aberdeen ๐Ÿ˜‰

      2. Rachel Avatar

I’ve already looked up the volcano status of Scotland and they’re all extinct. That’s great!

Nice flat tummy, Rachel. I agree with your dad. Sorry about your bad medication experience. I had a bad experience with imigran which I took for a migraine years ago. My head felt as though it was going to explode. Really scary. I heard that’s a side effect for some lucky people. What are Daniel and Ben doing in the sand?

    1. Rachel Avatar

That sounds awful, Bronnie. I’ll remember to avoid imigran too. I think I’ll just stick with the nurofen from now on.

standard beachwear here is jeans, puffer jacket. gloves and and woolly hat so pics of me at the seaside would not work on the stats in the same way, plus lack of volcanoes too…

I went to watch the New Year’s Day swim at Scarborough – I did not participate – and there were people in bikinis there – http://quakerattled.wordpress.com/2014/01/02/scarborough-new-years-day-dip/

I believe it’s an annual event for the town.

there are a few of those up and down the north east coast around christmas and new year such as at Marske where we go to walk alot but very much for the brave and intrepid as the North Sea is not warm even in summer

      2. Rachel Avatar

We went swimming in the North Sea last summer at St Andrews and it was FREEZING! Before we dipped our toes in we naively wondered why there was no-one else at the beach.

Very beautiful day… like England… but we don’t have a great big volcano in our background. Amazing & you look great too.

Sorry to hear about the bad meds ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

    1. Rachel Avatar

Thanks, Denise. No-one should have a volcano in their backyard unless it is extinct!

I’ve had a number of friends who suffered migraine. One had an allergic reaction whenever drinking to much fruit juice and another discovered an allergy to Soy sauce (which is known to cause sino chranial headaches).

One theory I heard is that if you have a bad reaction to the medication, then it may indicate that the cause is an allergy. Although allergic reaction may not be consistent. Best of Luck with this. Graham ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Rachel Avatar

I don’t have any allergies that I know of but certain foods can act as triggers so this could be the case. Mostly though, they are hormonal and also genetic. They run in my family.

      1. grahamatlinc Avatar

        Well run faster. ๐Ÿ™‚

I used to get hormonal migraines every month and my doctor recommended taking Vit B Ex Stress. I have done do for 20 years and never had another one. Jean (Friend of Bronwyn’s)

Thanks, Jean. I’m always open to new ideas and will give your suggestion a try.

From the title and first picture, my first thought was ~ she’s a lot younger then I thought, that’s not a bikini and why is she trying to stamp on her own shadow. ๐Ÿ™‚

woohoo! You’ve finally shown a photo of your beautiful beachside.

    1. Rachel Avatar

Thank you. The beachside has some not-so-bad features. ๐Ÿ™‚

Isn’t it more scary to live near a volcano than being seen wearing a bikini in the Web?
    Wonderful shots! ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Rachel Avatar

Yes volcanoes are way more scary, that’s why we’re leaving Auckland!

      1. belsbror Avatar

Hope you find a safer haven. Wish you the best,

      2. Rachel Avatar

Thank you, we have. We’ve moving to Aberdeen, Scotland in October.

  10. Sherri Avatar

Ha Ha! Well you had me there Rachel I didn’t expect to see you in a bikini but I have to say you are looking good girlfriend ๐Ÿ˜‰ Wish I had your flat tummy though, so I’m very jealous! So sorry about your migraine and those awful meds. I had some painkillers once for a broken foot and I had very similar reactions to you. Never again. At one point I didn’t think I could breathe, so scary. My daughter gets migraines and my eldest son had them from the age of three but he outgrew them thank goodness. Hope you are all better today, maybe another fun day at the beach… ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Rachel Avatar

Thank you, Sherri. It will be the first and last photo I post of myself in a bikini I suspect. Especially since we’re moving to Aberdeen. There won’t be many bikini opportunities there!

Feeling like you can’t breathe must have been very scary. I’m fine today, thanks. The migraine has gone.

      1. Sherri Avatar

Ha Ha! No, can’t see that you will have much chance to wear it in Aberdeen. Although with our crazy weather you just never know….
        Glad you feel better ๐Ÿ™‚
