Yorkshire’s Winter Wonderland

I stacked it (stack it = Aussie phrase for fell over) big time at the outdoor skating rink today which is at Yorkshire’s winter wonderland. It’s a superb rink by the way and much fun was had by all. But I got a little bit overly confident in my abilities and tried one of those stopping maneuvers in which you turn your feet out and then circle 3600. It didn’t work. My arms and legs flew in multiple directions and I slammed into the ice to the sound of a collective gasp from an audience of spectators. Lots of people fell over today but no one else got the gasp. Why me? I am feeling bruised and sorry for myself now. Thankfully though, my accident was towards the end of a very enjoyable session. We’ll definitely be going back.

Ooh, are the penguins like stabilizers? If so, what a great idea!

Yes, the penguins are for small children to hold on to. They were great.

Well, if you’re going to fall over, do it in style. I wonder if you were awarded points. Glad you’re OK though . 🙂

True – always good to fall over in style. If someone had been awarding points for the best fall I’m sure I’d have won.

Hmmm, that sounds better than “stacking it’.

Photos are beautiful, but where is the one of you ‘stacking’?

    1. Rachel Avatar

If someone took one they didn’t tell me.

Wow that sounds like quite a dive. Once I broke my glasses ice skating 😦 I stay off the ice if I take my children in case I sprain an ankle and can’t drive back! Having said that they are old enough to want to go into town with their friends by train to skate!

At least you know how to do one of those manoeuvres – completely beyond me!

No, I really don’t. That was the first time I’ve ever tried. I usually stop by ploughing into the side barriers.

I usually fail to start by clinging onto the side barriers. I could skate once when I was fourteen and more confident but for some reason that’s deserted me.

Sorry you’re nursing bruises. Good luck next time you practise your stunning manoeuvre!

The ice has such a beautiful texture to it! Sorry you had to see it close up!

It does, I agree. There was quite an interesting pattern on the ice.

      1. northernbike Avatar

the pattern is caused by the water disturbance from the sharks swimming in the lake below
