A new feature for my app

My clock app was rejected by Apple again. I was kind of expecting this since I really hadn’t added much in the way of features to it so I’ve been brewing another really cool feature which is now up and running. Now my app displays the time, day of week and the current alert status for the Auckland volcanic field.

This is actually something I’ve wanted for myself. Sure I can go to the Geonet website and click on the relevant links and eventually find the current status, but this is much faster and more user-friendly. Here’s my app now:

The “Rest easy” represents level 0. My app provides a suggested activity for each of the alerts. Here’s a breakdown of each level, how they are described by Geonet and the suggestion from my app.

Alert Level Indicative Phenomena Volcano Status My App Suggestion
0 Typical background surface activity; seismicity, deformation and heat flow at low levels. Usual dormant or quiescent state. Rest easy.
1 Departure from typical background surface activity. Signs of volcano unrest. Start packing.
2 Onset of eruptive activity, accompanied by changes to monitored indicators. Minor eruptive activity. Load car.
3 Increased vigour of ongoing activity and monitored indicators. Significant effects on volcano, possible effects beyond. Significant local eruption in progress. Leave now.
4 Significant change to ongoing activity and monitored indicators. Effects beyond volcano. Hazardous local eruption in progress. Run for it.
5 Hazardous large volcanic eruption in progress. Large hazardous eruption in progress. If you’re still alive, enjoy the show!

I’ve resubmitted it and am expecting to wait another 10 days or so for a review and then hopefully, it will become available for free in the App store. Will keep you posted.

    Any feedback from Apple yet?

No, it's too soon. They're taking about 10 or 11 days to review apps at the moment.

Could your app also cover volcanic fields in other parts of the world

It could. If I add an option for that.

I thought it would be handy for travelers.
