First day of school

Daniel’s first day of school today went really well, as far as I can tell anyway. He was happy when we dropped him off and happy when I collected him this afternoon. I asked him what he did at school and he replied, “Nothing”. But his uniform started the day clean and now it’s dirty, so something must have happened.

Last weekend we took Daniel for a ride on his new bike. It was his first time riding a proper bike and he did it:

I’m sad to say our month of visitors has come to an end. Di left early this morning and we shall miss her and all our other guests. She took a couple of great photos before she left:

So pleased that Daniel seems to have liked school. Must be a relief for you. What a clever boy to be riding a bike so soon!! By the way, love the photos. Di's obviously got talent! B

Cool photos, lovely to see Daniel on his bike and Elizabeth looking so happy. And great to hear that Daniel's first day at school went well. What's this about a uniform though?? Do they really have one? Is that normal in primary schools in Auckland?

Yes, Daniel has to wear a uniform to school which is a bit of a pain. Most schools in Auckland seem to have this requirement. For three polo shirts, two pairs of shorts and one pair of trousers it cost over $200. A friend of mine with a daughter at Remuera primary school had to fork out over $100 for one dress!

The red pants are a washable nappy.
