Last day in Leigh

This was our last day in Leigh so we wanted to make the most of it. This morning we went to the Brick Bay winery for their 2km sculpture trail. This is a gentle walk through forests and fields, past lakes and streams all the while enjoying a dotting of artistic sculptures which were very interesting and very expensive. The most expensive sculpture had a price tag of just under NZ$100,000.
It sounds like a wonderful adventure but it didn’t quite work out as planned. Dogs were allowed on the trail so we very bravely ventured out with both kids and dogs. The walk itself was great with three of the little creatures happily enjoying the outing. Daniel however is a reluctant walker and complained most of the way around, eager to reach the destination of cafe and playground. When we did reach the cafe and playground, the tables turned and Daniel became a little angel while Elizabeth and the dogs made our lives miserable. Elizabeth decided she needed to dash off for the lake or an expensive sculpture whenever we took our eyes off her while Freud decided he had to bark at all passersby and Zeki snarled and attacked him at every opportunity. I would not be surprised if Brick Bay decided to ban all dogs henceforth.

After lunch we went back to Goat Island to visit the University of Auckland marine centre. The marine centre isn’t on the island itself which is only very small, but on-shore directly opposite it. It’s a gorgeous, gorgeous place. Incidentally, there are no goats on Goat Island, nor is there any evidence of there having been any. There were pigs at one stage, left by mariners, but they managed to swim ashore and escape.

If all goes well, we will get the keys to our new home sometime tomorrow. Unfortunately our furniture will not arrive until Tuesday so we shall have to “camp” in our home tomorrow night. At least we’ll have a dishwasher.

Another interesting article about another beautiful place. What a bummer about kids' and dogs' antics. The Glasshouse Restaurant looks wonderful. Was the food good? Surprised there were no photos of Elizabeth eating sand. Good luck with your move in! Luv, B

Thanks B. Hopefully the next will move be the last for a while. We didn't eat at the restaurant unfortunately. Just coffee and some nibbles for the kids. It looked very nice though and would be a lovely place to have a big boozy lunch. I tasted their 2011 rose and it was delicious.
