Daniel and fire

Daniel has become very interested in fire. A couple of days ago he found some matches and was asking us how to make fire with them. Naturally we chose to keep this information secret which has had the effect of making him even more determined to find out. Yesterday he went outside and said he was going to “make a fire”. I followed him out to watch and he picked up two sticks and started rubbing them together. How does he know that?
