Insects and snow

You know you’re no longer living in a cold climate when you find ants having dinner on the kitchen bench and then eating dessert in the dog food bowl. This is something I never had to contend with living in Christchurch. I even saw a cockroach for the first time in many years. This is the wonderful thing about cold climates and one of the reasons I love them – insects find it too cold.

Christchurch has put on its first snow in a few years and the first snow to settle in a few more. When I lived there I longed for snow every year and instead I got 7500 earthquakes, then the moment I leave, the weather delivers. I’m not saying I want to go back because I really don’t. I just wish Auckland was colder.

Some good news: the snow in Christchurch has closed the airport which means Ben can’t fly back and I don’t have to kidnap him. Bring on the snow!

Some more good news: Daniel is sleeping in his own bedroom for the first time in months and months.

  1. It's about time mother nature delivered something of benefit to you (i.e. snowed-in airport). Happy days! So glad to hear that the sale contract is locked in. Love, B
