Rainforest in Parnell

After Ben left yesterday we all went down to the French markets for some cheering up. It’s a lively place with fantastic food and drink and live music. On our way back we took a short-cut through what was sign-posted as a reserve. This is what we found:

This was in the middle of Parnell, which for those who don’t know Auckland is pretty much in the middle of town. It was gorgeous.
We have a contract on our house! It will be 10 days before it goes unconditional though and for Christchurch this means an engineer’s report in addition to all the usual stuff like finance and building report. We’ve chosen a short settlement because if there’s another big quake in the meantime the purchaser has a way out. Fingers crossed, the ground will remain steady.
Today I took the children on the train to West Auckland to investigate a rental property. It took ages and involved lots and lots of walking on noisy, busy roads. Not a pleasant trip. The house was ok. It’s incredibly difficult to find somewhere to rent that will allow one blind and one deaf geriatric poodle. The search continues.

Rachel, so excited about your house. Eyes, toes AND fingers crossed that everything goes to plan. The reserve looks gorgeous. Best of luck with your rental search. I think I have some idea of the frustration you must be feeling. I remember trying to find something in Canberra several years ago. I had two cats and nearly every rental had a 'no pets' policy. How do you convince landlords that having two dogs does not mean you will wreck their properties? Sigh…

Do hope your poor old things even make it to Auckland. They are near the end of their lives and must have been feeling miserable down there in the kennels until Ben's return Sunday. Three cheers for Ben. I'm sure you'll find something even if you have to pay a bit more it will still be less than kennel fees. Aussies and NZedders have such cruel attitudes towards dogs…we have a convict past though – what's your excuse?
