I’ve always wanted a bath in the glass house. It was only really possible recently as the glass house didn’t have the space for it before. Previous owners had put old kitchen cabinets in there to use as potting benches and storage. I got rid of the final bench last year and my hot tub plan began to take shape in my mind. It has far exceeded my expectations.

I was worried initially about the energy bill but aside from the initial cost of heating the water from 7℃ to 38℃ it requires very little power to maintain because I’ve got it so well insulated. One night this week I tested turning the heater off to see how well it would maintain its temperature. At 7pm it was 38℃; 12 hours later at 7am it was 37℃ and this was overnight with an air temperature of about 4℃. The pump has to be on 24/7 but it doesn’t use much energy. When I sit it in of course it uses more as the cover is off and all the heat escapes.

I’m not the first person to think of putting a hot tub in a glass house. This vineyard in New Zealand has a very inviting bath in their glass house.
Here’s a video tour of mine.
Finally after a month of rain the sun came out today after the longest stretch of rain we’ve ever had here. I think the whole city collectively heaved a sigh of relief and many people were out and about enjoying it.
