Yesterday was all about setting up our new hot tub. Today we got to use it. I checked the temperature from bed on my phone first thing this morning and the app said 38C so I put my bathers on and ventured outside.
We have had non-stop rain in Aberdeen for longer than I can ever remember. It has got so bad there are now memes about it and they’re saying it’s the longest Aberdeen has ever gone without sunshine since records began. I am very fond of rain but even I’m getting fed up which is saying something. This made me all the more pleased to have the hot tub in our greenhouse where it’s dry. It’s also protected from the wind so it’s not quite so excruciating when you get out.

It got rather steamy as you can see but I view that as an added bonus as you could say it almost doubles as a sauna.

The tub is perfectly positioned to watch the birds at the bird feeder in the garden.
In terms of cost to run it’s too early to say but it’s looking promising so far. It obviously took a lot of energy to heat the water from 7C to 38C but now it’s warm the added insulation I got for it should minimise heat loss. I got the foam matting Lay-z-spa sells but I also invested in a Cwtchy thermal mat for the floor and a Cwtchy thermal wrap for the sides. I think I’ll probably get one of their top covers too just for a second layer. I imagine it’ll pay for itself very quickly.
I’m mastered the chemicals so far as you do have to test the water and get the alkalinity, pH and chlorine levels right. Ben says if I lose my job one day I could get a new job as a pool girl.
