Elizabeth joined the SC&T Youth performance group at the start of this year and my only regret is I wish we’d discovered them sooner because they’ve provided so many fantastic opportunities for her to perform. Over the summer she played at the music hall with Capercaillie, last week she played with SC&T as the supporting act for Blazin’ Fiddles and last night they got to join Breabach on stage at the Lemon Tree.

SC&T stands for Scottish Culture and Traditions. They’re a charity with the aim to encourage participation in Scottish traditional music, song and dance. They provide weekly lessons for students of all abilities as well as a weekly performance group which is what Elizabeth is part of.
Breabach is a Scottish folk band and the gig last night was part of their 20th anniversary tour. They’re renowned in the traditional music scene in Scotland and have won several awards. They put on a great show with a good mix of music – some slower pieces along with faster pieces that make you want to dance. Megan Henderson is on the fiddle and also sings in Gaelic – she’s got a lovely voice. She and Calum MacCrimmon even did a little step dance which was not unlike tap dancing.
