We adopted another hamster. I wasn’t planning to get another but I saw a plea on Monday on the hamster rescue Scotland network Facebook page about an ad on Gumtree. Someone in Aberdeen was giving away their hamster and the creature was currently in a totally unsuitable cage.
I don’t want to be judgemental because pet stores are largely to blame for selling unsuitable cages and products. I also didn’t know properly how to care for hamsters in the beginning and have only learnt over time from others more experienced. This poor little girl was in a tiny cage with no bedding for burrowing, no sand bath, and no wheel (just a spinning saucer). She wasn’t far from me so I dashed over and adopted her. There’s a risk when people give pets away for free that someone will take them on a whim.
We haven’t named our new family member yet and she’s been in our travel/holiday cage while I wait for a new savic plaza XL to arrive but I’ll share photos and videos once she’s settled in. It’s very satisfying to improve quality of life for others when you have the power to do so. She’s a black Campbell dwarf hamster.

In other news I got my highland dance exam results back this week and I got honours which is excellent. I’m very pleased with the result. I now have my bronze highland dance certificate and a little medal. Next year will be silver should I choose to do it.
In bad news someone has vandalised the artwork we commissioned for Deeside Way. They’ve ruined it.

I was very depressed when I saw this. The artist who painted the walls told me graffiti is not usually a problem because it’s poor etiquette to damage someone else’s art. I guess these vandals didn’t get that memo.
I’m not sure what to do. I’ve been researching options and you can get graffiti removal solvents but they will likely remove the original art too so I’m torn. Will that make it better or worse? Does anyone have any experience with this? I was thinking of testing on a small patch to see.
