Me wearing my newly finished knitted jumper

I knitted ranunculus

I finished another jumper! This is a pattern called Ranunculus by Midori Hirose, a Japanese woman living in Germany. You can buy Ranunculus on Ravelry.

I had to re-start this many times as I kept making mistakes at the beginning but once I got the hang of it everything came together smoothly. It’s a very detailed pattern and the instructions are excellent so my failed starts are not a reflection of anything bad about the pattern but rather my inexperience as a knitter. It’s a very popular pattern all over the world and there are YouTube videos that go through some of the more complex rows so once I discovered those I was all set. The Sun Dragon tips & tricks channel was particularly good and they have a whole series of videos dedicated to just this pattern.

It’s knitted from the top down on circular knitting needles. I used West Yorkshire Spinners Bluefaced Leicester yarn that I recycled from an old garment I had previously crocheted. It’s so lovely and soft against the skin.

The yarn looks lovely and strong, which I suppose it must be to have taken to being unravelled and reknitted. The pattern is very distinctive. It fits nicely as well โ€“ I tend to end up with quite baggy garments. Is it just a question of getting the tension right?
