I found £10 litter picking.

Litter picking

We went litter picking beside the River Dee today with members from Aberdeen Cycle Forum. There’s a pretty path along the river that goes from the rowing sheds down to Victoria Bridge but unfortunately it looks like party central with mountains of bottles and cans. Well no more! We collected 20 bags of rubbish in just under 2 hours including two hypodermic needles which thankfully are no longer in the environment.

I even found £10! It was almost entirely buried in dirt but I saw a flash of plastic colour sticking out and grabbed it with my litter tongs. It’s in perfect condition. Thank goodness for plastic money.

Me smiling with my £10 note

This part of the river is very close to the harbour and we really don’t want littler going into the ocean. Plus the river is home to salmon, many sea birds and there are bunnies living on the river bank.

What a good job you’re doing installing ethical values into your kids by your actions and role modelling.

this is a great idea that I wish was more popular.

They’re very easy to organise too and the council provides litter picking tongs and bags. They also came afterwards to collect the rubbish.

When I went once, it was good to have so many people out together doing something good. It was a bit overwhelming though, some areas had collected so much like car parks, which actually looked just as bleak and depressing after we’d been round. It’s good to go somewhere near the river, where you know it makes such a difference to wildlife.

It really helps having a group of people all working together otherwise it could be very overwhelming.

    Hi,

I’ve just come across this blog. Good job you guys! I live in Aberdeen and walk this area often – it is looking absolutely herrendous now – tons of litter.

Anyone would be up for a clean up??
