Scotland’s renewable energy industry employs more than 17,000 people

Scotland’s renewable energy industry employs more than 17,000 people and had a turnover of £5.5 billion in 2017.

Among the exporters are renewable energy consultancyfirm Green Cat Renewables, based in Biggar, South Lanarkshire, which opened an office in Alberta, Canada, in 2017.

Technology developed by Glasgow software company Smarter Grid Solutions is being used in Germany, the US, and Canada to enable utilities to integrate more renewable energy into electricity grids.

    The last time I flew back from Germany it was quite clear, and I could see how the hundreds and hundreds of wind turbines in the English Channel and North Sea – they are quietly building huge grids of them out there.

      There are so many wind farms off the coast of Scotland. There’s just so much wind here, pretty much everywhere.
