It feels like ages since we last spent a Sunday afternoon exploring a castle but today the gardens at Kincardine Castle in Aberdeenshire were open to the public so we went to have a look.
The castle is a beautiful Victorian building designed by architects Niven and Wigglesworth and positioned on a hilltop overlooking Royal Deeside. The view was gorgeous.
Castle gardens are wonderful places and the garden at Kilcardine did not disappoint me. I particularly liked seeing this old tricycle which I think is a Pashley Pickle.
They had an activity for children and here’s Daniel diligently recording his discovery.
Elizabeth found a treasure too!
They had the best laburnum walk I have ever seen – although truth be told I’ve never seen one before – but this would probably be the best even if I had.
Elizabeth had her face painted.
They even had chooks.
