Christmas in the Cairngorms

Christmas Day in the Scottish Cairngorms looks like this:

Lots of people said to me before we moved here that we’d be shocked by the number of people and the amount of traffic. Maybe this is true for the rest of the UK but not here in the north-east corner where the roads are extraordinarily quiet. All I can say is, what a wonderful place to spend Christmas.

We call it the rush 5 minutes. Looks like you didn’t manage to get up to the Linn of Dee, 5 minutes up the road from Braemar – next time?

No, we stopped in Braemar and walked up to the duck pond and watched the ducks skate across the ice. We might go back to the LInn of Dee before we leave as we’re here all weekend. Is it a long walk? We’re restricted by the smallest legs in our party which are attached to a 4-year-old.

You can drive up to it, so no problem. If it’s icy it should look amazing. 6.4 miles away though, so too far to walk.

What a beautiful place. No wonder tourists always rave about Scotland. Love Elizabeth’s pretty pink outfit.

It is such a beautiful place. My favourite part of the UK by far.
