It seems that almost weekly there’s an article in the news with some climate change contrarian telling the world that global warming has stopped. It’s for this reason that I’m not surprised by the disconnect between what scientists know about global warming and what the general public thinks they know. 97% of climate scientists agree that global warming is happening now and that humans are to blame. But the general public still thinks that scientists are divided on this issue.
An atmospheric scientist from Rutgers University, Jennifer Francis, gave testimony to the US Senate Committee on Environment & Public Works last week. It’s only five minutes long and she explains why it is not true that global warming has stopped and she does so in simple terms. She says, “The heat is there and the warming has not slowed down”.
