I’ve been really happy of late. Ben says, not to worry, I’ll get over it. The strange thing is, I don’t really know why I’m feeling so happy. My relationship with Auckland is still much the same. The only thing I can think of is that my outlook changed about the same time as bleaching my hair. It really is true then, blondes do have more fun.
I haven’t mentioned natural disasters for a while so it must be about time. New Zealand has had quite a few recently. Tongariro erupted for a second time this year and volcanologists are warning us of something big from Ruapehu. Neither has or will have much of an impact on us in Auckland except that usage of my EruptNZ app skyrockets each time there’s an eruption. So, Ruapehu, bring it on!
Last week we had some wild weather in Auckland and an apparent tornado killed three people. The victims were working on a construction site at Hobsonville Point, where we go for our weekend Farmer’s Market. The winds weren’t particularly strong in our part of town. There was just rain and thunder here.
On Saturday morning there was a Mag.5.8 earthquake in the central north island. It was reportedly felt in Auckland, although we didn’t feel anything. I read that it was felt more strongly on the eastern side of the north island because of the location of the earthquake: it was deep on the Pacific plate where it subducts under the Australasian plate. So the waves radiate more readily along the Pacific plate which is east. Auckland is on the West of the north island and so sits on the Australasian plate.
Always a worry when Rachel gets too positive. What can be going wrong!!!!
