Expensive pets

Zeki is spending the night at the vet’s on a drip. It turns out he has diabetes. This means I’ll have to give him insulin injections twice a day for the rest of his life while Freud gets three pills every morning and two pills in the evening plus eye drops twice a day. Rather than give the vet our credit card, I think we should just organise it so Ben’s salary gets deposited directly into their bank account. That should cover the costs.

The sad thing is, I’ve rather enjoyed not having Zeki around the house today. We have come close to rehoming him many times in recent years because he has snapped at Elizabeth more than once, bitten me and drawn blood (I should note that he was going for Freud) and has a tendency to growl at small children. But who would take an ageing dog that bites small children and occasionally craps on the kitchen floor? I must love him just a little bit because rather than say no to the $600 fee today for blood tests and IV, I agreed and even rang to see how he was this afternoon. He’s doing fine and will hopefully come home tomorrow.

Has poor old Zeki come home yet and does he seem better? So sorry you are having to fork out a fortune. The photo of the two doggies is so cute. Really loved the 'stain on the carpet' one of Zeki a couple of days ago. B

He is back home and looking much better. I'm not enjoying the 12-hourly injections terribly much though and have increased the ratio of tuna to rice in his meals. I'm thinking I might ditch the rice altogether actually and replace it with pearl barley.
