Weta

We had an uninvited visitor this week: a weta (see photo). It was huge and creepy-looking but quite terrified of us. Ben escorted it back outside.

Maddie spent the night with us on Thursday much to the delight of Daniel and Elizabeth. Daniel adores her. She fell asleep before him prompting him to tip-toe very quietly to the toilet so as not to wake her. He never does that for us!

We all went for a swim at Parnell Baths on Friday. It’s a busy public pool by the waterfront in Parnell. The kids really loved it but I was not so impressed simply because I know that in Brisbane, Southbank parklands have numerous pools and water play areas – I’m thinking of the aquativity play park – that not only surpass the Parnell Baths aesthetically and in terms of activities for kids, but are also free. The Parnell Baths were not free ($6.50 per adult) and the facilities were a little dated. Even Christchurch has a free outdoor pool for children in the Botanic Gardens. I wonder whether it’s open this year?

Elizabeth did wees on the potty this morning! We have been trying to encourage her to use either the potty or the toilet for many months now but she has been resistant to the idea. This morning she decided to try it out and while we weren’t looking filled up the potty then came and announced “monster wee”.
