Some photos

When we were walking along the beach at Saint Heliers the other day, I saw this house across the road with a nifty outdoor lift going from the garage up the hill to the house:

close-up:
Yesterday we went to Point Chevalier, a suburb west of the city. The playground there is fantastic. One of the best I’ve seen. It looks very new with an excellent mix of equipment catering to all ages. It sits on the edge of a cliff overlooking the harbour so the views are lovely.
I caught Elizabeth with her hands in the vegemite jar. Better than the toilet!
I think we’ve found a place to rent in Point Chevalier which will allow poodles. A decision must now be made. Do I rent the place and continue on my own up here until Ben is released from his work comittments in Christchurch or do we return to Christchurch and find a rental place down there where we can all be together? I asked Daniel this morning whether he’d like to go back to Christchurch and he said no. I don’t want to go back either but I can’t say we’re having the best of times up here. Perhaps things will improve once we’re settled in a home.

Rachel,You have the luxury of being able to procrastinate until your contract is unconditional then you'll have to make a decision. Given that moving is said to be third on a stress level after death in the family and divorce, my advice would be to minimise the number of moves you need to make. How long will it take you to pack your stuff and move out just once? If you're renting most landlords like a six month lease.

I wonder where earthquakes rate on that stress level list? Definitely higher than moving house. It's not really possible to procrastinate in the Auckland rental market because places get snapped up so quickly.

Sounds like you've made a decision then.

Hi Rachel, I go with the stay in Auckland. Less moves for you all. Ben can fly back and forth – and you will joy a local (to your ne whome) play group and all will be wonderful! And calm….Julie D

I may be forced to kidnap Ben on his next trip up.
