The Chelsea Sugar Refinery

Before Mike left on Monday, we visited the Chelsea Sugar Refinery in Birkenhead. The refinery is a huge pinky-orange building, visible from all over Auckland in an imposing position over-looking the harbour. There’s a sketch of it on all the Chelsea sugar packets so I’ve long wanted to visit it up close. It also lives in a lovely Heritage Park which although privately owned by the company, is accessible to the public. It was quite lovely.

The Chelsea Sugar Refinery. Shame about the carpark.

Glorious view from the park

Zoomed in

There was even a forest walk

I managed to get a shot of four Martins on the couch:

Only one looking at the camera
